چکیده

The Computational Mass Transfer (CMT) model is composed of the basic differential mass transfer equation, closed by auxiliary equations and the appropriate accompanying CFD formulation. In the present modified CMT model, the closing auxiliary equations in the c2 1c model given by Liu (2003) are further simplified for reducing the computational complication. By this model, the turbulent mass transfer diffusivity, the three-dimensional velocity/concentration profiles can be predicted simultaneously. To demonstrate the feasibility of the simplified CMT model, simulation was made for distillation column, and the results are compared with the experimental data taken from literatures. In applying the modified model to the simulation of a commercial scale distillation tray column, the predictions of the concentration at the outlet of each tray and the tray efficiency are satisfactorily confirmed by the published experimental data.

Comaprison of Mass-Transfer Efficiencies of Scc and Structured Packing

In a previous paper, pressure drop, flooding and mass-transfer characteristics of a novel pilot-scale distillation column called spinning cone column (SCC) were presented. Here, we present the result of comparison of mass-transfer efficiencies of SCC and structured packing. Comparison of SCC and structured packing mass-transfer characteristics show that the gas and liquid-side height of transfe...

Mass Transfer Coefficients in Pulsed Column for Separation of Samarium and Gadolinium

The mass transfer performance of a pulsed disc and doughnut column for extraction of samarium and gadolinium from aqueous nitrate solution with D2EHPA was investigated. The effects of operating parameters such as pulsation intensity, continuous and dispersed phase velocities on column performance were investigated. The axial dispersion model was used to obtain the overall mass transfer coef...

Model Predictive Inferential Control of a Distillation Column

Typical production objectives in distillation process require the delivery of products whose compositions meet certain specifications. The distillation control system, therefore, must hold product compositions as near the set points as possible in faces of upset. In this project, inferential model predictive control, that utilizes an artificial neural network estimator and model predictive cont...

DEVELOPING A NEW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE FOR DISTILLATION COLUMN SIMULATION

The simulation of distillation columns is an essential step in design, optimization, and rating. In this paper, a new procedure has been proposed for the initial estimation of column profiles based on modified Kremser’s group method for simple and/or complex columns. The effect of this initialization algorithm on simulation procedure has been studied through two examples. The results show sig...

Assessment of the Effect of Feed Plate Location on Interactions for a Binary Distillation Column

The paper considers the effect of feed plate location on the interactions in a seven plate binary distillation column. The mathematical model of the distillation column is deduced based on the equations of mass and energy balances for each stage, detailed model for both reboiler and condenser, and heat transfer equations. The Dynamic Relative Magnitude Criterion, DRMC is used to assess the inte...
